Perhaps. Perhaps. Perhaps.

Nike launched its initial public offering on December 2nd, 1980 for 18 cents a share. Ironically, 18 years before that, what started as a ‘Crazy Idea’ that came about after a routine morning jog in 1962 led Phil Knight to become a multi-millionaire seemingly overnight.

I believe his memoir, ‘Shoe Dog’, is one of the best stories that depict what a ‘crazy idea turned overnight success’ can actually look like.

Things take time.

Anything worthy takes lots of time.

Especially ‘crazy ideas.’

Yet, arguably the greatest part of the story is what happened the very next morning after that historical public offering.

‘I showered, ate breakfast, drove to work. I was at my desk before anyone else.’

I believe this is a testament to the quote referenced in the Epigraph of the book in which Shunryu Suzuki says,

‘In the beginner’s mind, there are many possibilities, but in the expert’s mind there are few.’

Perhaps across a variety of endeavors, whether that’s business, sports, or art, the perceived ‘end goal’ to achieve is actually the ability to retain the ‘beginner’s mind.’

Perhaps the highest form of discipline is not losing your sense of play in what it is you do.

Perhaps what you are grasping for is something you are already holding on to.

Perhaps. Perhaps. Perhaps.
